Maimane tells ANC to ‘pack their bags’

DA LEADER Mmusi Maimane has urged President Jacob Zuma to tell those attending the ANC conference in Gauteng to start “packing their bags” saying change was coming in 2019.

Maimane was speaking at a public meeting on Saturday held at the NG Kerk in Gonubie, East London.

Maimane’s visit to the province over the weekend formed part of his national #Change 19 Tour.

The tour began with a public meeting in Ntabankulu on Friday.

He then moved to Izinyoka in King William’s Town on Saturday for doorto-door visits and a street meeting where he touched on the water crisis in the area, ending with the public meeting in Gonubie.

Maimane’s address touched on key issues such as the Gupta leaks, corruption, Nkandla, unemployment in Buffalo City Metro and even potholes in Gonubie.

“Mandela left us too soon and then the tsotsis took over, the tsotsis who are now in conference in Johannesburg,” he said to the cheerful crowd that filled the church.

“We all know nothing good will come from that conference. And what is the point of this conference anyway, when their policies are all made in Saxonwold and Dubai.”

The DA leader also spoke about job creation in BCM, saying more needed to be done.

“Mercedes-Benz cannot be the only factory, more factories are needed, where people will not only work but have equal share in,” he said.

Maimane made it clear during the party’s provincial elective congress that they wanted to acquire BCM as their next metro in the province.

The DA leader also shared the party’s plans which includes unseating Zuma in the motion of no confidence vote in August.

In September, Maimane said, the DA will be going to court to have Zuma account for some 700 corruption charges related to the infamous arms deal and in October the party will focus on a judicial commission of inquiry to investigate the Gupta emails. —
