WITH just 93 weeks left before South Africans cast their votes in national general elections, the Democratic Alliance has gone on a drive to raise funds to finance their “#Change19 Campaign”, which seeks to unseat the ANC in 2019.

The DA last week sent out calls for “ordinary democrats” to donate towards their vision for a post-ANC South Africa.

The call which came from DA MP John Steenhuizen stated that the campaign would see DA leader Mmusi Maimane crisscrossing the country, delivering the message of change.

“[The campaign] requires many resources. With your donation, we can host more community meetings, print countless leaflets and knock on hundreds of thousands more doors,” wrote Steenhuizen.

The provincial chairman, Andrew Whitfield, said the DA was in the process of devising its provincial campaign strategy, which would also include fundraising.

“Political activity continues on a daily basis with door-to-door taking place across the province.

“The provincial leader will soon be embarking on a tour of the province to engage all structures so that we can build a grassroots strategy led by our teams on the ground,” said Whitfield.

The Democratic Alliance has been known for running well co-coordinated and aggressive campaigns having staged one of its biggest campaigns in 2013 – Maimane’s “believe in change” campaign.

Maimane ran for the Gauteng premiership under a campaign themed “Believe”. The campaign saw Maimane travelling to 350 locations just around Gauteng.

The biggest DA campaign in the Eastern Cape saw former provincial leader Athol Trollip taking the Nelson Mandela Bay from the ANC.

The Daily Dispatch reported that Trollip made more than 1 200 campaign stops – house meetings, street meetings, door-todoor activities, debates, rallies, marches, protests and oversight visits.

“Our #Change19 Campaign must spread the DA’s Message of Hope and Change across the length and breadth of South Africa.

“The DA is the only political party that can unseat the ANC in 2019. Your contribution can make that happen,” said Steenhuizen.
