Comrades star in for Legends

“Winning the Comrades again was an amazing experience and I have been training hard since then and I want to continue my good season when I take on the Legends.”

Mthembu is no stranger to the Legends, having competed in its last edition back in 2015 and, although this year will see the runners taking on a different route, he is looking forward to taking on a quick and flat course that he is expecting.

“It is a really nice race and I enjoyed it the last time I took part,” said Mthembu.

“I am expecting it to be a tough race. There are going to be a number of very good runners from around South Africa as well as some from other countries like Kenya and Botswana, so it is going to be very challenging.”

Legends Marathon founder Luthando Bara believes that having Mthembu come on board is just the start of things to come, and believes we will be seeing many more top runners confirming their entry.

“It is fantastic to have Bongmusa coming to compete in this year’s Legends,” said Bara.

“What is even more exciting is that he is not new to the race, he has competed before and it shows that he enjoys it and is coming back again.”

After last year’s unfortunate cancellation, this year the race is back with a bang, with a new route and a host of different distances for everyone to enjoy, and it should see a massive entry field taking part.

“Last year was just a bump in the road. We are putting it behind us and it shows the trust that runners have in the brand and the interest in taking part in this race that runners of the highest calibre will be coming from all over to be a part of the race,” said Bara.

The Legends Marathon takes place on September 24.
