Why, oh why, Bonang?

TV personality Matheba makes error of judgment with her autobiography ‘From A to B’ that does her brand no justice

-

misunderstood shared her journey of being diagnosed with clinical depression. For a black woman to talk about such was a big deal. On top of that, she owned up to a lot of things that have happened in her life.

Not to say, Matheba’s deals with Revlon and Woolworths or her philanthropic work are not reasons to be very proud.

She has done amazing things but perhaps for now she should stick to growing the Bonang Matheba brand, and write a book when she is a little older.

In the early 2000s we had Nonhle Thema – an MTV VJ who travelled the world interviewing top stars – what a beauty. She went on to live in Los Angeles and had a reality show.

She could have easily done what Matheba is doing now but she didn’t. She was living every young South African entertainer’s dream, mingling with international stars. She could have documented her Hollywood life but chose not to.

So what did I carry away from Matheba’s book?

Have a vision board, visualise your dreams and work hard to achieve them. Be the best in what you do, give it your all or don’t do it.

She could have said on a social media post – posted a picture with an extremely long caption talking about a vision board. Oh and she also loves champagne, as I’m sure all her fans are aware.

One tip that I did get out of the book came from learning that her mother is a big saver. She has taught her the value of saving and money. Matheba talks about how her mother saved for her first flight to Durban at the age of four and a trip to Walt Disney World a decade later. I think I will start saving up for that trip for my toddler. — poliswap@dispatch.co.za
