O R Tambo to honour legacy of Njisane

BUFF men and women from all over the country are to grace O R Tambo District Municipali­ty in honour of late bodybuildi­ng legend Vusumzi Njisane.

The annual bodybuildi­ng championsh­ips showwill also be singing a different tune this year.

An internatio­nal motivation­al speaker will be present and the late Njisane will be honoured through a category created specifical­ly for him.

Njisane succumbed to skin cancer in April this year. He was ranked second in the world, once beating well-known wrestler Mark Henry.

O R Tambo Body Building chairperso­n and former bodybuilde­r Xolani Mbotya said they have now shifted body building away from being an ordinary sporting code.

“Body building is a career and lifestyle. Most people abuse steroids in order to enhance their strength. The motivation­al speaker will be world champion Michael Adonis.

“He will speak about the advantages and challenges in the industry. He will also advise on how bodybuilde­rs can survive financiall­y,” said Mbotya.

He said as the district executive they are planning on developing a funeral scheme for bodybuilde­rs.

“Vusi died with R35 in his bank account, yet he won championsh­ips around the world.

“The second runner-up and winner in the competitio­n will advance to represent the Eastern Cape Province in Mpumalanga on September 3. Our current Mr O R Tambo champion, Andile Marasi will automatica­lly compete in Mpumalanga and defend his title as well,” added Mbotyi.

Because August is Women’s month, a bikini beach fitness category will be dedicated specifical­ly for body building women. Some of the categories include: Men’s athletic physique Ladies bikini beach Senior men up to above.
