AN EAST London-based fashion designer, Linda Sithole, relaunched her clothing line under a new name, Total Confusion Fashion House, at the weekend.

Sithole is famous for dressing provincial female MECs and MPLs, including the flamboyant Pemmy Majodina, Phumza Dyantyi and Nosimo Balindlela.

A presidential suite with black and white draping and fairy lights at Buffalo Cricket Park was filled to the brim with friends and clients of Total Confusion Fashion House.

Upon arrival at the high-profile event, guests were welcomed with a drink of their choice, ushered into the suite, where they were serenaded by the smooth tunes of the band Stiletto. Among the guests were Deputy Minister of Public Enterprises Enoch Godongwana, Dyantyi and Walter Sisulu University Enterprise Development Centre CEO Cwenga Pakade, who was also the keynote speaker.

Twenty two years ago, when Sithole’s dream of becoming a fashion designer was realised, she operated from a garage at her Willow Park home, where she made and sold her dresses.

The 45-year-old designer has over the years found her niche, and under the new business name she will be specialising in traditional clothing, spiced up with modern designs to accommodate the old and the young.

Sithole also revealed her new clothing line for men, which was well received.

Speaking at the event, Sithole said she wanted to leave a legacy for upcoming designers. “I do not want other designers to go through the hardships I had to go through to get to where I am today. Designers should be entrepreneurs and not wait for things to fall in their laps.

“I have taken it upon myself to assist and mentor university and college students where I can, for nothing in return. I am also using social networks to reach even those who are not in the Eastern Cape.”—
