Cops catch goat thief red-handed

- By ZINGISA MVUMVU

A MAN was caught red-handed stealing three goats at Unit P in Mdantane at the weekend.

This is according to Mdantsane police spokesman Nkosikho Mzuku, who said the man, 25, was arrested by “Operation Back To Basics” officers on weekend patrols after he was caught loading the goats on his bakkie.

The livestock was later identified by the rightful owner and the man is expected to appear before the Mdantsane Magistrate’s Court this week.

“He was caught in the act of loading the goats onto a bakkie and was arrested on the spot.

“The owner later came to identify the livestock,” said Mzuku.

Mdantsane police also confiscated 6kg of dagga in NU12. A 36-year-old man was arrested.

The weed was packaged into 24 arms of dagga.

It was at this very residence at NU12 that police also found an undisclosed amount of cash during the drug raid, said Mzuku.

But it was not only at NU12 that the drug raid was productive.

In NU17, a 34-year-old woman was arrested for illegal possession of dagga.

“The police arrested the woman for possession of two arms [measured from elbow to hand] of dagga, a black refuse bag half full of the same drug and another plastic shopping bag with dagga weighing 2.98kg,” said Mzuku.

The spokesman added that police had arrested three people for drunken driving in Mdantsane and Cambridge.

All three are court this week.

Mzuku said Operation Back To Basics was yielding good results.

“Police continue to patrol hot spots and to maintain high visibility in the area in an attempt to proactively prevent crime,” he said. — due to appear in
