CHIPPA United suffered their first home defeat through the hands of Baroka FC when they lost 3-1 in a Premier Soccer League (PSL) fixture at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium last night.

The defeat was Chippa’s second this season after their 1-0 beating away by Orlando Pirates, in the season opener.

Meanwhile, a brace from Gift Motupa and an own goal from James Okwuosa saw the Limpopo based soccer side record their first win against Chippa in a league game, after having lost both their home and away fixtures last season.

The Chilli Boys took the game to the visitors in the first half forcing Baroka to be defensive for the first 20 minutes of the game.

The home side’s first chance at goals came in the 17 minutes of the game when Abel Mabaso strike went over the crossbar.

Bakgaga warmed up to the game and started knocking on Chippa defence.

A mistake at the back saw Baroka take the lead in the 40th min when Okwuosa beat his own goalkeeper and scored the opening goal of the game.

The Limpopo based side was given a caution after the ball hit one of their players arm and Chippa were awarded a penalty, which was converted by veteran striker Katlego Mashego in the 56th min.

Motupa who came from the bench paced his way to the Chippa’s goal posts to beat Mhlongo and placed the ball in right corner of the net in the 64th min.

His second goal came at the dying minutes of the game as the visitors went home 3-1 winners.

● SuperSport United saved their best for the closing stages to beat Platinum Stars 2-0 in their Absa Premiership encounter at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville last night.

Sifiso Myeni, who replaced ineffective Dove Wome in the 76th minute, unleashed a powerful shot from outside the penalty box to beat Stars goalkeeper Mbongeni Mzimela in the 84th and regular scorer Jeremy Brockie put matters beyond doubt deep into optional time.

For United, this hard-fought win has moved them to fifth on the standings, six points from their opening three matches, while Stars remain rooted at the foot of the pile with only one point to show from their troubles.

Stars will have an opportunity to register their first win of the season when they host Chippa United at Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg on Saturday afternoon.

For SuperSport, their next league assignment is also against Chippa United next week Tuesday at the Lucas Moripe Stadium where they will be looking to move a few places up on the PSL log.

Stars enjoyed most of the possession in the opening exchanges where they managed to go through the SuperSport United midfield that was marshaled by their captain Dean Furman but they lacked killer ideas when they arrived in the opposition danger.
