Clean up city, Mr Mayor

-

GOOD day Mr Mayor Xola Pakati, our oncebeautiful city of East London is decaying before our eyes. Despite reporting potholes on a regular basis, little seems to be done to repair them.

Despite reporting the filth all over – for instance in Belgravia Crescent, North End and Southernwood – little seems to happen about clearing it up. Meanwhile, dumping continues everywhere. Despite assurances that the cemeteries will be properly cleared and maintained, there is little evidence of this.

Would you like to be remembered as the mayor who fundamentally revitalised Buffalo City Metro or simply another mayor who wasted taxpayers’ money – including on side issues such as name changes. History cannot be erased, it’s part of life. The British WERE here. The past cannot be removed by changing names. Rather concentrate on the future. Why not start an education process for citizens encouraging them not to litter.

Get the various departments to be seen to be doing their work. There was, for days, an open manhole in St Johns Road, North End, which was only repaired after a car’s wheel got stuck in it. Imagine if a small child had fallen into the hole. Your consideration on all of the above would be appreciated by the many who used to love living in this part of the world. — Name supplied, East London
