CURRENT Miss KSD TVET College and aspiring model Zethu Nama has been nominated in the Best Female Model category in the Live Your Dream SA Youth Awards to be held in Durban later this year.

Speaking to the Daily Dispatch Nama said she found out about the awards through social media.

“I looked at some of the work that I have done and figured that I would stand a match, but I never thought I would make it to being the one representing the Eastern Cape,” said Nama.

The 21-year-old from Mandela Park outside Mthatha said she started modelling in small-scale pageants like the ones held in community churches, where she once ended up being a close runner-up to the winner.

“The last one was in 2012 and when I did not win I sort of gave up.

“Only when I was crowned Miss TVET did I realise that I still had a spark and wanted to share myself with the world,” said Nama.

Earlier this year she joined SME, a modelling agency, which is when more doors opened up for her.

“Only after I joined SME did big things happen for me. The agency hosted the Miss Mthatha pageant, but that was not a success and I didn’t win so I figured that I should try other avenues,” she said.

Nama said she heard about the Live Your Dreams Award through social media and entered because she sees modelling as a potential career path.

“I want to win this award because I believe there are many young girls in my shoes who are beautiful and talented and I want to inspire all of them to follow their dreams no matter where they come from,” said Nama.

She said she believes she can win and believes that one day she will have her own agency, which will see young girls from her own community being able to reach their dreams.

“I believe in myself and I want to inspire other young girls to believe in themselves, regardless of where they come from.

“If I can enter a national competition so can they. That is all I wanted to achieve,” she said.

The awards will be held at the Durban Playhouse in November.
