Homeboys will be up for Gold test

stage, and although both games were very tough so far, we came away with the wins.”

However, they come up against a strong side in Progress George, who claimed a somewhat surprising win over the previous pool frontrunners Tygerberg last weekend and a victory for them will put them in the driving seat.

“The guys have been working very hard over the week for this weekend’s match and are really looking forward to the game,” said Matyeshana.

“We don'’ know anything about Progress George, but most of the teams in this competition we know nothing about, so we just focus on making sure we are ready for the match.”

Old Boys, who lost to Swallows by just a point on the first weekend then went straight into a bye this past weekend, will need to hit the ground running when they return to action tomorrow.

“Unfortunately, it has been a long two weeks. We had a look at the game constructively to see how we lost the game after a good performance,” Old Boys coach James Winstanley said.

“We have learnt from the lesson and we are ready to get back out there and make amends, so Saturday can’t come quick enough.

“There is a bit of tension. It is a healthy tension but this is a do-or-die performance for us, so we are not so much looking forward to the game but there is a more a sense of urg Progress Uitenhage are yet to win in this year’s Gold Cup. After losing against Tygerberg in their first game before going down to Swallows and they will be eager to get one in the win column. However, they could provide the perfect platform for Old Boys to get their campaign going.

A good bonus point win would put Old Boys straight back into the qualification mix and would certainly make what’s turning out to be a very interesting pool even more unpredictable with each team looking as if they can beat each other.

“Results did go our way this past weekend. What it means though is that anyone can beat anyone on the day, so it is going to take a lot to reach our goal at this stage. We just have to focus on ourselves and see what we can do,” said Winstanley.

“We are happy to be playing at home but we know that we need to produce a compelling performance for our supporters after letting them down last time out.”

The Swallows v Progress George match will be played as the curtainraiser to the Border Currie Cup First Division match at the BCM Stadium, while Old Boys will host Progress Uitenhage at Mike Pendock Motors Park, with both matches kicking off at 3pm.
