Two held in R600k drug bust
MDANTSANE police arrested a man and woman for dealing in and possessing drugs after R600 000 worth of crystal meth (tik) and an undisclosed amount of cash was allegedly found in a search of their NU3 premises on Monday.
Police spokesman Captain Nkosikho Mzuku said police had seized 4 836g of crystal meth sealed in plastic bags with an estimated street value of R600 000, 44 small packets of tik valued at R2 200 and an undisclosed amount of cash.
“We had been monitoring the situation for a while now.
“In situations like this we are tipped off by the community about suspicious activity,” he said.
The man is aged 42 and the woman, his girlfriend, 25.
“Both suspects appeared in the Mdantsane Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday to face these charges.
“They are now out on R500 bail each and will be back in court on November 11,” he said.
Mzuku said it was policy to not reveal aspects of the case such as the past criminal records, the amount of money confiscated and the nationality of the man.
“This operation formed part of the SAPS’ initiative to rid the communities we serve of the scourge of drugs and its manifestations.
“These types of arrests are beneficial as we get rid of drugs which destroy our community and the future of our children,” he said.
“Those who want to be involved in this kind of business [drugs] must realise we are serious about stopping these activities and will not allow drugs to infest our community,” said Mzuku.
In an unrelated incident two days earlier, a 45-year-old man was arrested by the Hawks in Amalinda after he was found in possession of drugs with an estimated street value of nearly R2-million.
