Chippa told to go for the jugular

- By VUYOKAZI NKANJENI

CHIPPA United caretaker coach Teboho Moloi wants his players to up their game considerably when they play against Golden Arrows in a Premier Soccer League fixture at Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

The coach also says his biggest headache ahead of the Arrows game is to make sure his troops are able to handle setpiece situations well, as their opponents are known to be very dangerous in this aspect.

“Arrows is another team that uses transition, a lot of speed, they are very aggressive and they are very dangerous when it comes to setpieces,” said Moloi.

“I know Clinton [Larsen]. He worked with coaches who showed him how to handle setpieces as a player.

“So, we need to be up to our A game especially when we concede setpieces against Arrows.”

The Chilli Boys have a decent away record so far this season, having lost only one game from the three matches played, with their most recent result a 1-1 draw against SuperSport United.

They will be out to maintain that run against log-leaders Arrows, who have not lost a match this season.

Chippa have struggled to get a win since beating AmaZulu 2-0 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium but Moloi can take comfort in the fact he has not lost a game since being in charge. He has four points under his belt from four matches.

Asked how much time he will need to settle in and get the team back to its winning ways, Moloi replied: “That’s a difficult predication to give. As we all know, this team is used to playing possession. It will depend on the how quickly they grasp our finishing exercises.

“We need to understand that this is a team that played the South African way, slow buildups with patient penetration and now I want a little bit of speed to finish off the attack.

“For me it’s a matter of working hard at training and it will come.

“The harder you work the luckier you become,” he said.
