Duck returns as Stones frontman for EL show
Producer and Centrestage bring rock tribute to Guild
CENTRESTAGE have teamed up with Barnyard Theatre entrepreneur and producer extraordinaire Duck Chowles to celebrate the 25th anniversary of a show with a one-night-only performance in East London.
The show, Sticky Fingers – A tribute to the Rolling Stones, is set to be staged at the Guild Theatre next Saturday.
Chowles himself will once again front the Centrestage band as the charismatic rocker Mick Jagger in a role that was originally created in 1992.
The reunion rekindles the relationship between Duck, Centrestage owner Gary Hemmings and comedian/drummer Gino Fabbri, which spans twoand-a-half decades.
“It’s hard to believe that it’s been a quarter of a century since we first staged Sticky Fingers at the Grahamstown Festival, in Port Elizabeth, Plettenberg Bay and at the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town,” Duck reminisced.
“Gino Fabbri was there at the beginning and has played in all the various incarnations over the years – and Centrestage’s Gary Hemmings was our very first promoter all those years ago. Gary arranged us the most cushy gig we have ever done, still to this day. We performed at the pool between 12pm to 2pm at the then Formosa Inn in Plettenberg Bay for two weeks over New Year. We were accommodated right there and we had the rest of the time available to party as hard as our youthful selves desired. That is pretty much as rock ’n roll as it gets.”
The band have just completed
and among others. Fabbri reprises his role as Charlie Watts on drums, with Sherid van Rooyen playing the rock ’n roll pirate and guitarist Keith Richards.
They are joined by musical director Alan Kozak on second guitar in the guise of Ronnie Wood, Andrew Warneke playing the role of Bill Wyman on bass and Boet Strydom on keyboards.
Tickets for the show will be available through Computicket at R160 or R140 for eight or more.
The single show starts at 7.30 pm.
