Birmingham, Thunderbirds draw
WHILE the Sasol League saw more than 30 goals being scored at respective games around the province, top contenders Birmingham City and Thunderbirds Ladies drew 0-0 at Duncan Village during an intense game of tactical football.
Birmingham City chairman, Vusi Khumalo breathed a sign of relief as his charges managed to contain the log-leaders in the league and he admitted that both sides had played to the best of their abilities.
“It was a balanced game with tactical approaches from both sides - and no-one wanted to make a mistake by taking chances. And it was too windy so I guess that's another thing the teams were guarding against during the game.
“This was the derby of the coastal stream in the league as we both have quality players who score goals and as I have said previously, we dropped points earlier unnecessarily.
“But now we've been coming out with back-to-back wins with many goals, so it was not going to be easy for them to take that away from us.”
Khumalo said even though the Butterworth outfit was also a lethal side, they prepared their players to fight fire with fire.
“That's why we played to a stalemate today. But I would say we had the upperhand because we created more chances than them.
“Because Ashley Booysen who scored two goals during our last game had chances she could have finished but unfortunately she was denied.
“She was a stress for them upfront from the first whistle and I believe she could have scored at least two goals. As well as Aphelele Mpambani, she was a problem for them as well and I also believe she could have scored one or two goals.”
