Enforce noise bylaws, BCM

-

THE noise emanating from the Supa Mega Show at Buffalo Park cricket ground this weekend kept parts of East London awake for most of Saturday evening going into the dawn on Sunday when the show ended with fireworks.

Buffalo City Metro has bylaws to protect its inhabitants from noise nuisance.

This is described as “any sound which disturbs or impairs or may disturb or impair the convenience or peace of any person”.

The ratepayers of this city demand that they be protected from this type of noise nuisance.

According to the bylaw, any person may apply for exemption from any section of the bylaw.

They have to make a formal application; the city may approve the application and stipulate conditions under which exemption may be granted and the applicant must undertake in writing to comply with all the conditions imposed by the municipality.

As the Buffalo City Ratepayers Forum we will now do the following:

● Lodge a PAIA application to request information regarding the approval of the Supa Mega Show (although BCM has yet to answer any of our eight applications submitted since 2014); and

● Undertake a citywide petition against such excessive noise which the council would appear to approve of.

We ask all councillors to seriously address this issue now as the Christmas season is nearing. We want the authorities to do the reasonable thing and protect citizens in terms of the bylaw they have approved in council.

The noise from the Supa Mega Show was cruel. — Tumi Suping, Buffalo City Ratepayers Forum chair
