Chosen six, so that is what I will be working towards from now.”

For Bendeman he will need to pick himself up from the loss and get ready to compete at the world champs in Bahrain which he qualified for after winning his African title.

Two other fighters from Mthatha also competed at the Chosen champs with mixed results.

Yamkela Yenzela fighting for the first time battled it out in the Welterweight division against PE fighter Charl Adams and produced a brilliant effort to take the win, with his fight being named fight of the night.

Yonela Nonki then competed in the lightweight division against PE's Fernesto Nel and despite a spirited attempt he unfortunately went down to the home fighter.

“We are proud to be from Mthatha and from a small gym that we have opened called Bloodhounds MMA EC, and we hope many more from Mthatha will join us and that it will be an uprising of the sport in Mthatha,” said Fodo.

“We are still a small club that's not yet fully functional as we still fight under the legendary Rod Young's Black Dragons.

“I would also like to open a dojo here in Mthatha as we currently train in a garage.

“I am also looking at hosting an event here next year, I believe there is a lot of talent in Mthatha and I believe the sport can grow a lot here.”

The next Chosen Fighting event will take place in December and Yenzela will be fighting in it again, with Fodo then taking part in the following event.
