High-riding Mampofu calls on Eastern Cape with Yoba, Mackayi

- By POLISWA SEJOSING

FROM acting to music, East London’s Oros Mampofu is on a new journey as he explores his love for music.

Mampofu is on the Run Eastern Cape tour, together with musician Vuyo “Van Dailest” Yoba and actor Ayanda Mackayi. The three started their tour in Komani early this month and will be finishing it off in Mthatha next week.

Many will remember Mampofu from the SABC1 show Skeem Saam where he played the role of Jama. He has also featured on the popular Mzansi Magic show iGazi, Kowethu and Harvest.

He has also appeared in a number of television adverts as well.

Speaking to the Daily Dispatch yesterday, Mampofu said his single titled Calling on Me is due to be released later this month.

“The song has an afro-pop and dancehall effect. We are at a stage where we are exploring the music and it’s also my way of introducing myself as a musician,” he said, adding that he would explore different sounds and make music that resonates with the people.

While his love for music may seem new to others, Mampofu said: “Music has always been close to my heart. I was in a choir from the age of 10 and I am well vested in many genres, from maskandi, gospel, R&B to jazz. It’s only recently that I focused on the acting part.”

He also said he would continue with his acting career while he pushes his music.

“I am still acting and I am busy working on something,” he said.

Mampofu and his team, which consists of Yoba, Mackayi and their production team, have been visiting schools and universities around the province, inspiring the youth and introducing themselves as artists. Yoba is a musician, and Mackayi is an actor and MC.

Catch Mampofu, Mackayi, Yoba and their team performing tonight at Jeff’s Place in NU3 in Mdantsane. Tomorrow they will be performing at Oh!Brigado Champagne Bar.

Next week they are expected to visit schools in Mthatha to do motivational talks and perform at Kopano Lounge. For more information on their tour, search their social media hashtag #RunEC17. — poliswap@dispatch.co.za
