Musclemen all set for OR Tambo competition
AN INTERNATIONAL flair will be on show at Walter Sisulu University in Mthatha tomorrow night, when the exciting OR Tambo Southern Africa Bodybuilding championships gets under way.
Six premier athletes from Zambia and Mozambique will be strutting their stuff against some of the best South African bodybuilders in the country, in what should be an enthralling contest between the best in the business.
“Like in any other sport, the more you expose the local athletes to top international talent it give you a good indication of where athletes in the country stand against other athletes and it also is a great experience for our guys,” Bodybuilding South Africa vice-president Khaya Majeke said.
“Two national champions in Mr Zambia Sylvester Mwila and Mr Mozambique Bonaventura José Macuácua will be heading the international challenge and will be eager to show why they are the top-rated bodybuilders in their countries.”
Mwila is no stranger to competing in South Africa, and this will be his third appearance in this competition. The other Zambian bodybuilder taking part will be William Sinyangwe. “The guys from Zambia are always top performers and are a major drawcard in the event,” said Majeke.
Macuácua will also be keen to make an impression – along with three fellow athletes from Mozambique in Silvino Ouana, Abilio João Libombo and Mário Xavier Davane.
“These guys from Mozambique always give the South Africans a run for their money, so to be the best you have to beat the best and that is always a great contest,” said Majeke. With the local challenge being spearheaded by Mr South Africa Mveliso Tapi, they will not want the title to go to an outof-country athlete, so competition should be fierce.
Defending champ and former Mr SA Michael Adonis will be back to try and defend his title, so it should be a topclass show.
Weigh-in for the athletes takes place this afternoon from 4pm to 9pm.
Pre-judging will then get under way tomorrow morning from 9am, with the main show starting at 5.30pm.
