- RUNNING By ROSS ROCHE

EXCITING running action is on the cards with the annual Trevor Gee 10km race and 5km fun run taking centre-stage from the Beacon Bay Country Club tomorrow.

The popular run will start and finish at the country club and is being hosted by the East London Athletics Club and Port Rex Lions Club.

A fantastic race should be in store and runners will be in for a fun morning that celebrates the amazing work of Trevor Gee, who has dedicated many years of service to running on the Border.

With entries still coming in and a number of runners possibly going to make a late call whether to take part the favourites are still not known.

The top male contenders who could be on show include Luthando Hejana and Ayanda Samabele (Real Gijimas), Lusapho April and Vusumzi Zondo (Oxford Striders), Pastor Madlavana and Masivuye Poswa (Born2Run), Xolile Ndabeni and Nkosinathi Nzingo (Nedbank Running Club).

On the women’s front a strong Born2Run contingent of Cindy Schwulst, Hanlie Botha, Stephanie Smith and Jaime Griffiths could be in the running should they enter.

Entries and registration for the race can be done at Sportsmans Warehouse in Beacon Bay until 2pm today and at Beacon Bay Country Club from 4pm-7pm tonight.

Latecomers can enter at the country club between 6am and 7am tomorrow morning. The 10km race costs R70 and R40 for the 5km, while lucky draw prizes will be up for grabs at the end of the race.

The 10km race gets under way at 7am and the 5km fun run at 7.15am.
