Popular comedian set for EL stage
COMEDIAN Luphelo Kodwa, who was been nominated for the prestigious Comics Choice Awards, is bringing his funny stories to the Comedy Night EL tomorrow.
Kodwa will be performing at Wiseguys Pub and Grill, alongside well-known South African funnymen Robby Collins and Kagiso Lediga.
Comedy Night EL, which is held monthly, is a partnership between entertainment company Splakavellis Management and Wiseguys Bar and Grill in Vincent.
Known for his ‘ vaskom’ story, Kodwa was nominated for the Audience Choice Award at this year’s Savannah Comic Choice Awards. Although he did not win the award, Kodwa said he was honoured to have been part of the awards, which took place last month.
“It was amazing and I am glad I got the opportunity to be there as a nominee. This was major for me as a Xhosa comedian to be in the top five in the audience choice category,” he said. Kodwa said he could not wait to share some of his new material at the comedy show tomorrow.
“I have some new material since the last time I performed at the comedy night and I will be mixing it up with some of my old material.”
Splakavellis Management’s Sheree O’Brien said this was Comedy Night EL’s sixth show.
O’Brien said they have had two soldout shows: one in July when Tats Nkonzo and Loyiso Madinga headlined the Comedy Night and last month, with Trevor Gumbi and Donovan Goliath.
“We’re looking to expand to surrounding cities. Venue owners should get in touch if they are keen for us to host Comedy Nights at their venues.”
She said local comedians were also welcome to contact her by e-mailing her at
Tickets cost R120 and are available through www.quicket.co.za. Doors open at 6pm and the show starts 8pm. —
