EL musician gets his shot on ‘Expresso’

- By POLISWA SEJOSING

EAST London musician Ays Mabusela made his television debut on SABC3’s morning show Expresso yesterday.

Mabusela performed new album, iRepertoire .

Many will remember Mabusela from his band, La Peafa, with members, Spokazi Nolatsho and Thembani Gidi. The group has performed at numerous events around the province and reunited late last year after taking a break.

“We have tried pushing the La Peafa brand since last year but it has been hard. I decided that it’s high time that I focused on my own thing. This has always been my vision. I have invested so much in my craft and it’s time that I do something for myself,” he said. Mabusela said the group would continue performing together, though.

“If we get booked, we will still perform together as a group. My solo career is not the end of the group but the focus has shifted.”

Mabusela said he would be growing his brand and taking his music to the people.

“The Expresso appearance was my first TV performance and it was also the first time I was performing my own music. It was also about profiling what people can look forward to,” he said, adding that he did two of his new songs.

He said he was grateful for the opportunity to share his music with a larger audience.

“People are already asking when is the music coming out. This was an amazing experience for me,” he said. Mabusela said he was planning to release his album early next year.

“I have been working hard in the studio for the past seven months and I cannot wait for people to hear my material. However, I will not be releasing my music now. I want the festive season to end first, then I will release early next year,” he said.

Catch Mabusela performing at the Berlin November next month.

“This is also a buildup to the Berlin November, which I am looking forward to,” he added. — music from his upcoming
