Izinyoka out of control
THE recent power outages in Buffalo City Metro are surely largely due to cable theft and electricity theft. If you drive along the Black Road you hardly see a single street light that is working.
The road surface is horrible after the robots on your way to the second overhead bridge built on that road due to protests and burning of tyres – all for free electricity and services.
Why are solar lights not installed on this road to assist pedestrians and motorists using this road?
As you pass Vergenoeg to the Scenery Park traffic lights you see the electric cables running from a robot pole into the bushes.
This robot is supposed to direct traffic and save lives in peak hours.
Parkridge is another sight for sore eyes, including a pitiful road surface and non-functional street lights. As you pass Reeston just after the bus depot you see cables strung overhead and along the side of the road, all quite visible to the naked eye. This is how brazenly electricity is being stolen.
All this of course, poses a huge danger to the lives of innocent citizens who might get electrocuted. If someone is electrocuted by these cables who will be charged for murder?
I ask this question because someone needs to be held accountable.
So in essence, is it correct to say BCM has lost the plot about curbing electricity theft. And thus it can only demand that legal ratepayer just pay the price through an increase in tariffs to offset the losses incurred by theft?
If that’s the approach then why can’t we all just hook up our houses to street poles? Problem solved. No need to buy electricity or pay for it? — Burton Brown, Buffalo Flats
