YOUNG entertainers Van Dailest, Oros Mampofu and Ayanda Mckayi, who have been on their Run Eastern Cape promotional tour, will end it off in Mthatha this weekend.

The three started their tour in Komani early this month and have visited East London, Port Elizabeth and Grahamstown.

Their tour sees Van Dailest, whose real name is Vuyo Yoba, and Mampofu sharing their latest music, while Mckayi acts as the MC of the events.

Mampofu, who many will remember as Jama on the SABC1 show Skeem Saam, and on Mzansi Magic’s iGazi, recently launched his music career with the release of his debut single titled, Calling on Me.

Mckayi is also an actor and played the role of Boysie in season two of iGazi.

Yoba said the tour was their way of launching their careers and spreading positive vibes to the youth of the province.

“We want to push the message that anything is possible and we are a group of guys who are doing things for ourselves. We are honoured to be finishing off our tour in Mthatha, which is my hometown – and some of the guys in our team,” he said. The musician, who started scribbling rhymes at the age of 12, said he always knew he would pursue music in his life.

“I grew up under the influence of rappers like Nas and I just enjoyed writing my own rhymes,” he said.

Even though he started off with rap, Yoba said he was now exploring other sounds of music and was not sticking only to hip-hop.

His latest single, titled Stature, is available on all digital stores.

“We have a music video that we will be releasing soon and there is also more music coming. We have been busy working on new material with our producer Lowkey on the beats,” he said.

Yoba said launching their careers on the road was not the usual route that musicians followed.

“We have been doing social activation in preparation of the festive season and also establishing a strong footprint for ourselves.

“This is a first, people normally release music and get airplay and later do a tour.

“We decided to be different. We have a team of young, skilled people who are passionate about the arts and we are doing things our way,” he said.

Yoba said they would be visiting Walter Sisulu University today and are scheduled to perform at Von Sway Lounge and Kopano Lounge in Mthatha tomorrow night. In East London, they also visited universities and high schools doing motivation talks.
