Insult to name ancestors

-

MEMBERS of the public can agree, ever since the recall of Thabo Mbeki at state president our ancestors have turned around. We went to Polokwane with the Eastern Cape ANC making headlines. The same occurred at Mangaung.

Others may ask, what went wrong for the Eastern Cape, the province that used to be the pillar of the ANC? The answer is easy. Leaders elected to the ANC national executive committee from the Eastern Cape changed their mother tongue “Xhosa” and now speak isiZulu.

This is evident when some greet the crowds and rather than saying molweni (good day) say sanibonani, bearing in mind that the person grew up in the rural areas of the EC.

Our province may have lost its historic political role by sacrificing the ANC to other interests. The Eastern Cape is evidently led by people who do not understand the ANC itself. It is led by careerists who do not see financial stability outside the ANC. While some leaders went and finished their studies, others resolved, on leaving school, to become “traditional” ANC leaders.

In the Eastern Cape, there are people I’d call abangcatshi, Oo Judus (betrayers).

I don’t think Eastern Cape ANC leaders realise when they’re on the podium, knowing well that they’ve been doing wrong things, it is an insult to the ancestors to call them, using their names.

I suggest all members of the ANC – and in the Eastern Cape in particular – stop saying viva OR Tambo, or viva Alfred Nzo, or viva Govan Mbeki, or viva Walter Sisulu, or viva Raymond Mhlaba etcetera until they are ready to change from their selfishness and greed. In our time you can’t trust a person who comes from the EC. We are famous for backstabbing and powermongery. Big ups to KZN! — Potelwa Siphe, King William’s Town
