Hi-tech Isuzu will bring out geek in you

- By BONGANI FUZILE

DID you ever imagine you could drive a 4x4 double-cab bakkie with WiFi connectivity and a hands-free Bluetooth connection?

Today’s bakkies offer that and lots more to boot – to the extent that many are serious competition to Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs).

What’s the use of going for a car if the double cab can load your family, tow that trailer (3 500kg) and have space for everything (including the kitchen sink) in the boot.

Currently there’s tough competition with Isuzu, Mazda, Volkswagen, Ford and Toyota launching new models every season all trying to outdo the other.

Recently we heard the news that the Mercedes-Benz X class is about to join the fray. However this bakkie is expected to be launched in the country only in April.

The Daily Dispatch these past few weeks had two of the latest 2017 Isuzu 4x4 bakkies, the Isuzu KB Dteq automatic and the manual version to drive. Compared to the 2016 model, the 2017 version now has front and rear USB ports, WiFi connectivity and rain sensor wipers.

Both vehicles come with the standard Isuzu Media Solution, with Touch-screen Satellite Navigation, Reverse Camera, Smart Phone Features and Bluetooth audio streaming. The leather covered steering wheel, comes with Multi-function Controls and Cruise Control.

The luxurious seats which are sixway electronically adjustable, are trimmed in genuine leather with durable synthetic leather side facings.

In the exterior, the front has a new, aerodynamically crafted front-end design which is bolder striking than before.

The upcoming Isuzu KB 4x4 XRider expected to be launched this month promises to have all new features. We will wait for that opportunity to check it out.

● Both vehicles come with a warranty of 5-year (120 000km) and a 5year (90 000km) service plan;

● Their selling price starts R494 300. — and more at
