EL no match for PE

-

A RECENT visit to Port Elizabeth highlighted to me how East London and Buffalo City Metro differ. Arriving in a dirty and rundown East London after driving around a clean and functioning Port Elizabeth was depressing indeed.

This is despite the commendable work that the Call2Action campaign is doing.

Clearly changing the names of suburbs is more important to the BCM mayor and his councillors than service delivery.

Changing the names may give you much-needed votes so please get on with it and hopefully, the focus can be on the issue of running the metro.

East London had the potential to become the prime Eastern Cape sports tourism destination. The Nelson Mandela Bay mayor has made that a priority for his metro and judging by what his council is doing, BCM may no longer even be in the race.

If BCM cannot even get the once pristine and functional Joan Harrison swimming complex into working order how on earth can East London be punted as a sports tourism destination of choice.

But I guess the BCM powers have priorities other than maintaining the infrastructure and keeping the metro clean so that it becomes attractive to investors which would in turn help reduce the horrific 45.3% unemployment figure.

Congratulations to all involved in the Call2Action campaign. Keep up the good work. At least you’re providing small pockets of excellence amid an otherwise sad state of affairs. — Bryan, Nahoon
