Presenter finalists for popular show all from province
THE next Our Perfect Wedding presenter will be from the Eastern Cape – that is guaranteed, as all six finalists hail from the province.
Noni Mbete, Natasha Mazomba, Mbasa Fefe, Nolusindiso Macanda, Kayise Ngqula and Asanda Mbali will battle it out today for the OPW presenter position after beating thousands of hopefuls to make it to the top six.
The popular Mzansi Magic show embarked on a national journey looking for the new face of the show and East London was one of the cities visited. The six finalists were all born in the Eastern Cape. The winner will be announced on Monday and will undergo training before shooting starts.
Mbete, who hails from Port Elizabeth, told the Daily Dispatch yesterday she had just landed from Singapore when she heard about the auditions taking place in East London in September.
“I was exhausted but I wanted to audition. From the moment I walked into that room and saw Moneoa and Nomsa, their energy rubbed off me and I was able to be myself and do well in the audition,” she said.
The mother of two said being in the top six has been a phenomenal journey for her.
Mbali, of East London, said the competition had been unbelievable.
“It’s like it’s not happening. From the first audition it was nerve-racking and everything that has followed has been exciting. It is so surreal.
“I still feel like it’s not happening to me. I feel excited. I am proud of myself. I want the viewers to see someone who’s relatable, someone they would like to get to know better,” she said.
Mazomba, also from East London, said she also did not expect to make it to the top six.
“I am a spontaneous person and even the auditioning was a spur of the moment thing. I didn’t think I would make it to the top six.”
Mthatha-born Fefe said she had hoped to make it this far.
“My mission and focus is to win. I know the competition is tough but I am willing to push myself,” she said.
Macanda, from Alice, said she was grateful to have made it this far in the competition.
“A friend of mine saw the ad and they encouraged me to audition. After that first audition I knew that this is what I was born to do.
“It has been a wonderful journey and I feel blessed because all the ladies were so good . . . May the best lady win,” she said.
Pretoria-based Ngqula said she has grown immensely through the competition. She was born in East London but her family moved to Pretoria when she was 10 years old.
“Being in the top 6 for me confirms that I am worthy of all that I dream of being. I’m elated, proud and humbled by what this journey has meant for my life and career.”
