- By MFUNDO PILISO

WITS from Sarah Baartman under Kouga local football association beat Mighty Swallows 3-1 in penalty shootouts during the SAB League Nedbank Cup provincials held in Jeffreys Bay over the weekend.

Wits will now look at their next encounter, against the E C Bees, which will be played at the Tokyo Sexwale Stadium in Jeffreys Bay on December 9.

Jackson Mpisani, Wits president, said their first game against Bizana team Thohoyandou was a tough encounter.

“Even if you look at the final scores you’d see that almost every game went to penalties. Even the spectators came to us to say the standard of football from all the teams was very high quality.”

He said the final game against the Bhisho-based outfit, Mighty Swallows, was tightly contested, and that they had to dig deep in order to secure a win through penalties.

“That was a very good game and they scored first, and then we equalised in the second half.

“Now, looking at our next game we going, I think we’ll have to strengthen our midfield, because we want to make sure the Bees don’t catch us by surprise.”

He said they had two weeks to prepare for this encounter, and that playing the Nedbank tournament would help them in their campaign aim, which is to reach the ABC Motsepe League.
