Top comics Maki and Mothebe in action tonight
COMEDY lovers are in for a treat tonight as top comics make their way to the city for Comedy Night EL.
The comedy night is a partnership between entertainment company Splakavellis Management and Wiseguys Bar and Grill in Vincent.
The event, now in its seventh month, sees the two hosting a comedy show every last Wednesday of the month.
Tonight’s show will feature Port Elizabeth-born comic Nkosinathi Maki and Mo Mothebe, with Deep Fried Man as the host.
Speaking with the Daily Dispatch yesterday, Maki said he was looking forward to coming to East London as it will be his first time performing in the city.
Maki, who started his comedy journey in 2011 while he was in Cape Town, has been hosting his one-man shows at the Grahamstown National Arts Festival for the past three years.
He has also performed at the popular Goliath Comedy Club in Johannesburg, as well as the Parker’s Comedy Club.
“In my most recent show, School Boy, I share my life growing up in a township,” Maki said.
“I have also been doing my Gluten Free show in which I share my life experiences and observations.
The Johannesburg-based comic said he was currently back home to help organise the Mandela Bay Festival.
Maki said people should expect to hear stories that they can relate to.
“I am also working on material for the international market. I travel a lot and I always try to accommodate everyone,” he said.
The show’s organiser Sheree O’Brien also called on local comics who would like to try out their material, exercise their craft and network with national talent, to sign up for the open spot. Contact her on
