Victorious Ajax won’t rest on laurels

- By SAZI HADEBE

BUILDING on their surprise 1-0 win over Chippa United will be uppermost on Ajax Cape Town’s coach Stanley Menzo mind when they visit Kaizer Chiefs in what will be their last league match of the year at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday.

Menzo was delighted to see his side moving off the bottom of the table to 13th spot after Thabo Mosadi’s goal gave his side a priceless 1-0 win – a third of the season in 13 matches – over the Chilli Boys at the Stadium on Saturday night.

Ajax had been forced to play this home match away from home with the Cape Town Stadium not available for a number of reasons.

“Confidence will be there ahead of the Chiefs game but confidence don’t give you three points‚ you still have to work hard‚” said Menzo.

“You look at Chippa. I think they came here with a lot of confidence after winning against Chiefs but still they had to play to win.

“So yes confidence and belief Bidvest is good but still they had to fight to win those points.”

With his side struggling with consistency‚ Menzo admitted that they will have to go to the market in January to get a couple of players who can help them win matches.

“If you saw us against AmaZulu we drew 2-2 while at some stage we were leading 2-0. They equalised in extra time.

“We got one point instead of three points. Against Platinum Stars it was the same.

“As a club we are looking at what we can add to the team in January. At the same time we want someone who can make a difference and help the team to go up.

“You have to take care of the players you bring in because they have to add something we don’t have right now.

“My players are not bad but maybe they need an extra player who can finish the chances we create.

“Someone who can make the difference. That’s what we need. This is not a bad team‚ it’s a good team.”
