Praise songs to fill Mthatha Stadium ahead of new year

- By SINO MAJANGAZA

MTHATHA Stadium is set to reverberate with sweet heavenly voices during the Masibulele kuJehova Cross Over concert on Sunday.

The event, presented by Mthatha-based Bishop Phikolomzi Mafanya, will feature artists like Mpumalanga Praise, Thinah Zungu and Bethusile Mcinga.

Event organiser Sipho Makhabane, who will also perform on the night, said other singers that appear on the lineup include former Joyous Celebration singer Phindile Phonky and Ayanda Shange.

Basheshe Bahleka hitmaker Donny Ngwenyama and Sipho Ngwenya of UJes’ufikek’ekuseni fame will also make their debut visit in the town.

Makhabane said the people of Mthatha and its surrounding areas should expect a great performance that will uplift spirits.

“The lineup is good and hopefully they like it,” he said.

Makhabane said the purpose of the event was to give thanksgiving to the Lord “for his faithfulness and kindness”.

“We have made it this far not because we have done something special and those who did not make it were the worst sinners.

“I believe we are still given another chance in life and we will be thanking God for that and asking Him as we enter 2018 to carry us through,” he said.

Speaking to the Daily Dispatch yesterday, Ngwenya said he was excited to be part of the lineup.

“Those who will come should look forward to singing in the presence of the Lord,” he said.

“We will be telling our God how great he is, through music.

“We will be saying goodbye to 2017 and welcoming 2018.”

Ngwenya’s song on his second album called Intimate Worship, UJes’ufikek’useni, which features Thinah Zungu, became an instant hit and reached gold status within five months of its release.

“I am happy that I will be singing the song for the first time in Mthatha,” he said.

Ngwenya said his fans could also expect to get a taste of his new album that is scheduled to be released next year.

The show starts at 6pm and ends at 6am, and tickets are available at Computicket for R250. — sinom@dispatch.co.za
