-

A FRESH new year comes with fresh new hopes. Some people make New Year’s resolutions, some don’t. Some people stick to them and some don’t. Reporters LISEKHO MADIKANE and MANDILAKHE KWABANA spoke to some East London residents about their 2018 resolutions and visions. This is what they had to say:

“This year I am returning to school since I finished my matric in 2016. I have been accepted to study law at NMU.” “I hope for new houses in my community and more jobs.”

“I want change in my community; personally I want a job so that I can provide for my family.”

“This year I want to pass my matric with a bachelor exemption and play first team rugby for Selborne.”

“I wish for peace in our country, a new government and justice for all in 2018.” “I wish for a proper shelter and a well cared for community.”

“I want our community to be a better place so our youth can focus on better things like their education, and I am hoping to get a permanent job.”

“I wish to take my daughter to university to study social work following the president’s announcement of free higher education.”

“This year I would like to improve my academics.”

“I am hoping to get a house with electricity.”

“My new year’s resolution is going to the gym. 2018 is about being healthier to me.”

“I want to renovate my home, raise my child well and hopefully pass my first year [of tertiary].”

“I am planning on entertaining nothing but positive vibes.”
