Book written after suicide of friend

- By TEMBILE SGQOLANA

AFTER his friend committed suicide, Mbongeni Sono decided to write a book about it to motivate and encourage people to face challenges head-on instead of taking their own lives.

Cala-born Sono, who now lives in Komani, wrote Before the Sunrise following the death of Paul Zitho, a police officer who shot and killed his wife and two children before turning the gun on himself in 2009.

Speaking about the incident, Sono said he felt betrayed after his friend decided to take his own life.

“In 2015, I decided to do something about people who are failing to overcome difficult times. The book is a motivation to those people, and will bring back hope in their lives.”

He said Before the Sunrise was also based on the experiences of other people.

“There are people who decide to end their lives when they face challenges. This book is made for them and those who end up losing hope because of the situation they find themselves in,” Sono said.

He said working hard and facing obstacles head-on were the ways to overcome challenges. “Strong people are not afraid of obstacles, as they do not have a permanent place in life. Those who will read the book will have hope because this is a book of hope.

“It [the book] changes one’s perception in life and broadens one’s thinking.”

The motivational speaker and father of three said he was planning to have his book distributed throughout the Eastern Cape.

But for now it is available at a bookstore in Komani. He also sells the book from his home. To buy the book, contact Sono on on 083 240 8240. —
