Bucks more than ready for big Cape Town clash

New players will bolster confidence

- By MFUNDO PILISO

MTHATHA Bucks assistant coach Sibusiso “Phopho” Mapompo says their 5-0 win against Maritzburg United on Tuesday was not the challenge they hoped and prepared for.

Nevertheless, Mapompo said they were making good progress for their clash against Cape Town All Stars tomorrow at the Athlone Stadium.

Amathol'amnyama got back to their training on December 28th at home before relocating their camp to Pietermaritzburg two days later.

“We've been training hard ever since we got here and luckily we got an invitation from a big team to play a friendly game. And playing that was good because we had a chance to take a look at how the boys were handling themselves on the pitch, as they have been learning new things.

“We gave a everyone a chance to play during this game and they showed up to the party thankfully, so now we know what we have to improve on going forward.

“And I can say things are looking good. I won't lie even though we've lost some players that we cannot reveal at the moment, but we are also looking to rope in some new players into the squad.”

Mapompo said the new signings to be released by Amathol'amnyama's management this afternoon were there to bolster the team.

“We are not signing new players out of desperation.

“We want players that will help us climb up the log and will also stay with us until next season, and we will only sign players that will move the team forward – and things are looking good for us.

“We are just waiting to see what happens by the end the week, but we promise you that we'll get a positive result against All Stars with the players we have now.”

Cape Town All Stars have managed to upset Bucks at home when they won 2-1 at Mthatha Stadium.

So Bucks will have to rise to the occasion this time round as they will be at Athlone, which is All Stars’ slaughterhouse.

All Stars again managed to frustrate the high-flying Jomo Cosmos at that same venue, to mark their third loss, after the Vosloorus-based outfit managed to win eight games with 28 points to remain at second position on the log standings.

Last month Cosmos hosted Bucks at Vosloorus Stadium and gave them a 2-1 hiding.

All Stars have also held log-leaders Highlands Park to ransom when they played to a nil-all draw at Makhulong Stadium last month. Highlands Park beat Bucks 3-1 at Mthatha Stadium.
