Zulu grabs opportunity to join Highlands Park
TALENTED left-back, Pentjie Zulu has joined National First Division log leaders Highlands Park after he asked to be released from Mthatha Bucks following an offer he got from the Johannesburg-based outfit.
Zulu joined Amathol’amnyama on a one-year deal from Chippa United in August last year after he spent less than six months at the Eastern Cape’s only PSL club. Now he has signed an 18-month deal with the Lions of the North.
The man affectionately known as the “teacher” to Bucks supporters because of his entertaining style of play, said he wanted to see Amathol’amnyama move from the relegation zone before making an exit. But he did what anyone in his position would have done.
“Sadly, I left the team because of an offer I couldn’t refuse, so I had to go even though that was not part of my plan.
“I feel good though that I got this chance because Highlands Park are doing well in the league.
“They are currently number one on the log but still I didn’t plan to leave Bucks as they are struggling at the bottom of the log. I still wanted to help the team get back to the top but then again, when something like this happens…it’s just business you know.”
The ex-Chippa United left-back, Zulu, signed with the Lions of the North last week, and he said swapping Mthatha Stadium for Balfour Park Stadium was a step any player would gladly take.
“I’ve been training here for a week now and the atmosphere is incredible. The guys have welcomed me very well and management have been supporting me with everything I need so I’m good.”
Another player to leave Bucks is former Bafana Bafana winger Luyolo Nomandela, who was released earlier this week.
