Bucks coach satisfied with one point

- By MFUNDO PILISO

MTHATHA Bucks coach Duncan Lechesa said he was satisfied with the narrowly earned one point when they drew 3all against Royal Eagles at the Mthatha Stadium on Saturday.

Bucks have now slipped to the bottom of the log with 15 points, while Eagles are on position 14 with 16 points.

But Lechesa only had good things to say about his team’s performance .

“The guys fought very hard and now we need to be stronger at the back.

“We are scoring goals but we have that problem [of conceding goals] which is not good but a point at this present moment is okay, and we can’t fault the boys,” Lechesa said.

He lauded both teams for an entertaining game adding that both teams do not deserve to be where they are in the log.

Despite the position of his team, Lechesa insisted they would turn the corner.

“It’s only a matter of time and after two games you’ll see a different team.”

Bucks brought on Siya Dubula for Loyiso Simandla, a move which Lechesa described as technical.

“We needed to take a risk and Dubula’s experience came in handy. We needed to take out a defender because we were chasing the game and it worked very well.”

Bucks were chasing a win or at least a draw hence Lechesa opted to close down Eagles rearguard.

He gave credit to his players for giving the visitors a run for their money, adding that his troops showed hunger which marked the beginning of good things.

He singled out Sello Jaftha as his best player on the day. “Jaftha gave us his all and he’s a very experienced player and now we even have a strong bench,” he said.

Other players who made an impact on the coach were Auguston Leornard and Mpho Erasmus.

Erasmus came off the bench and scored a late brace that earned the hosts the point.

This week Lechesa will work on his team’s defence ahead of the Stellenbosch FC encounter away.
