Who’s at fault for EL zoo?

-

THE article “Mass call to rescue EL’s zoo animals” (DD, January 24) refers.

What have all the outraged people done to prevent things getting to this stage? Nothing!

What have all the outraged people done to hold the city council accountable to run the zoo correctly? Nothing!

There are dedicated people, municipal employees and general public, who are doing their best. They are stymied by under-funding, under-staffing and under-equipping caused by city council apathy and a shocking reluctance to properly care for the animals.

If the armchair critics did something positive for the zoo instead of waiting to be outraged by easily preventable conditions, this would never have happened. — Dave Rankin, Cambridge

WHAT a way to start the day at 6am to read about the East London zoo saga again. Enough to make one puke!

Buffalo City Metro sings the same old story about accepting the challenges and the other drivel it raises every time in statements to the paper.

The rubbish dished up as to why the initial charges were withdrawn is reflected by the comments of knowledgeable people in this report.

In view of their statements, I again ask as in my previous letter last year in this regard; where is Friends of East London Zoo?

How can one group of knowledgeable people make such damning findings while FELZOO apparently just twiddles their whatever they twiddle. May God in His mercy grant that common sense prevails, that the remaining animals are rescued and the dump is closed. — Frans de Lange, via e-mail
