Chiefs vs Tornado will be a real thriller

- By MFUNDO PILISO

ABC Motsepe League newcomers Bizana Pondo Chiefs will be aiming to topple their hosts, log leaders Tornado, when the two sides meet at the North End Stadium this afternoon.

Tornado have been leading the pack for quite some time now this 2017/18 third-tier season after having won 15 games, losing only one to EC Bees and drawing and playing a 2-2 draw against Mthatha City.

Number one on the log standings for months, the Mdantsane outfit has managed to keep everyone at bay, leading with a whopping 11 points. The EC Bees are sitting on 35 points, while PE Stars were on 34 points at third spot on the log standings.

Meanwhile Pondo Chiefs have been doing quite well for themselves as the team got promotion to the third-tier league this season.

They are currently sitting in fifth position on the log-standings with 29 points after dethroning last season’s runners-up Future Tigers, who’ve been relegated to sixth position and also 29 points.

Tornado coach Tshepo Motsoeneng has said many times that he was done being secretive about his hopes and intentions of winning the league title and he would be more vocal and and he’s done exactly that.

He also managed to put his money where his mouth is regarding results and entertaining football, as they are currently sitting on 47 goals.

Since their clash against the Chiefs is in their own backyard they will be looking to kill from the first whistle.

But taking the new kids on the block, Chiefs for granted, would be a great miscalculation for the log leaders as Chiefs have built an impressive record.

The Bizana-based outfit has impressed many football lovers in the province through their fight and unusual techniques that bare fruit on the field of play.

Even the most experienced and well resourced sides in the third-tier league have felt the edge of Chiefs’ sword. PE Stars formerly known Callies has lost 3-1 to Chiefs even though they had more experienced players like the Bafana Bafana midfielder Elrio van Heerden.

Chiefs will not only be looking to steal maximum points but to also test themselves against the best. On the other hand Tornado will look to maintain their record of one loss so this game promises to be a thriller.

Other fixtures: Future Tigers v Highbury at NMMU 2nd Avenue, Lion City v FC Buffalo at NU 2 Stadium in Motherwell, Mthatha City v Butterworth at Mthatha Stadium, Matta Milan v City Lads at Ngumbela Stadium, Spears v EC Bees match has been postponed due to the Bees having Nedbank Cup commitments.
