Tributes for Amathole ANC leader’s mother

- By SIMTHANDILE FORD Politics Reporter

TRIBUTES poured in yesterday following the death of ANC Amathole regional secretary Teris Ntutu’s mother, Nodoli Ntutu, 80, who died on Saturday evening following a long illness.

Teris said their mother’s passing shocked the entire family even though she had been ill for sometime. He said she passed away just after he left the hospital.

“It is never easy accepting a death of a loved one even if they had been ill for a while. One continues to hope for full recovery. But our mother was old and we are grateful for the life she has afforded us as her children. It has been a life better than the one she had,” said Teris.

Ntutu has suffered from asthma for many years but her condition worsened in the past two years. She had been in hospital for the past four weeks.

ANC provincial communications manager Gift Ngqondi said Ntutu was an activist in her own right, having served as a member of the ANC’s Max Madlingozi branch in Ngqushwa.

“We hope our condolences and those of many others, who would have lived with Mamu Ntutu, will go some way to bring consolation and comfort,” said Ngqondi.

DA provincial leader Nqaba Bhanga said the party was keeping the Ntutu family in its prayers and they hoped all her relatives would find comfort at this sad time.

“Losing a parent is never an easy experience but it’s an experience that we all go through.

“At this time we wish that the Ntutu family could find comfort as they mourn their parent.”

UDM provincial chairman Thando Mpulu said: “We were aware that she has been hospitalised but we had hoped for a recovery.

“We send love and comfort to the family.”
