It’s battle stations for four spots

SO FAR 12 teams have made it into the 2017-18 Nedbank Cup round of 16 teams, with four teams being from SA Football Associatio­n structures and the National First Division following the weekend fixtures.

Bhisho-based E C Bees, playing in the provincial ABC Motsepe League, also wrote their own history by qualifying for the next stage of the lucrative cup tournament after beating Limpopo’s Mariveni United 3-1, over the weekend at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Here are the teams who survived in the last 32, in their order of qualificat­ion: Cape Town City, AmaZulu, Ubuntu Cape Town, Mamelodi Sundowns, Maritzburg United, Steenburg United, Chippa United, Orlando Pirates, E C Bees, Royal Eagles, Kaizer Chiefs and Bloemfonte­in Celtic.

The remaining spots in the round of 16 will be decided during tomorrow night’s Nedbank Cup round of last 32 fixtures.

PSL spokesman Lux September said the proceeding of the Cup competitio­n draw would be broadcast live on Thursday night at 7.30pm on SuperSport 4.

“All 16 clubs will be placed in one pot and there will be no seeding. In each sequence, the first ball to be drawn will be the home club.

“The second ball will be their opponent – the away club and this process will be repeated until all fixtures are finalised.”

Here are tomorrow’s Nedbank Cup fixtures: Platinum Stars v Baroka FC at Royal Bafokeng Stadium, Richards Bay FC v Bloemfonte­in Young Tigers at Umhlathuze Sports Complex, Super Eagles v Free State Stars at Goble Park, Stellenbos­ch FC v Highlands Park at Athlone Stadium. —
