Bees seek to be much sharper than Spears

- By MFUNDO PILISO

WHILE E C Bees have a mammoth task ahead of them after being drawn against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup, they have to play catch-up in the ABC Motsepe League this afternoon when they lock horns with Spears at the Mqeshwa Sports Fields in Bizana.

The busy Bees have been working hard trying to avoid dropping much-needed points in the thirdtier league as they took a chance at glory of the R7-million David against Goliath competition.

The “Crazy Gang” are coming out of a 6-0 morale-boosting win against Highbury at Bhisho Stadium last weekend.

That was their first game following their 3-1 win against Mariveni United in the Nedbank Cup last 32 at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Bees will want to topple Spears, who are sitting on seventh position on the logstandings at 25 points, while last season’s number one team occupied third position with 38 points after having won 11 games out of 18. This is what will no doubt drive the side.

The Bhisho-based outfit has been on a mission to prove themselves after having started the 2017-18 season on a backfoot when they lost the majority of their players from the 2016-17 season – like ex-Sundowns midfielder, Siyabulela Shai, who left the club for greener pastures.

Chippa Njedu had no choice but to restructure the entire team and make young and inexperienced additions to the squad, like Toboho Moeti, who’s been performing well under his guidance.

Bees have been the only team that has managed to beat third-tier logleaders Tornado this season.

They beat the Mdantsane-based outfit 2-1 at Bhisho stadium during the first round of the season.

Bees will today receive the date and venue of their Nedbank Cup clash against the Chloorkop-based side.
