Community engagement push for pupils
PUPILS from around East London have an opportunity to be rewarded for their contribution to the upliftment of communities.
The Inspiring Youth schools campaign was launched at Stirling High School yesterday. Speaking at the event, organiser Brad Taylor said the campaign aimed to prompt pupils to take the initiative and do good in their communities.
“We want to hear stories of how youth in our city are helping transform their communities. We don’t want them to realise when they are old that they can do good in the world. We want to motivate them to have a positive attitude towards the world in their early years, while still in school,” said Taylor.
Youth have until the end of this month to tell of their uplifting community work.
From online entries submitted, eight finalists will be selected and announced mid-April, and each will receive R2 000 in vouchers from Vodacom4U and PNA Stationers.
One of the finalists will do a presentation of their community work at an Inspiration Awards breakfast to be held at Mercedes-Benz, East London, on May 17, and will receive a further R40 000, plus some finalists will be nominated as Local Heroes and receive R20 000 each.
The awards are in conjunction with the Daily Dispatch and Johnson & Johnson Local Heroes Awards, and are in partnership with PNA Stationers, LinkFM, Vodacom4U and Iguana Media. —
