TRIATHLETES will be back in action in the city this weekend as the Tribal eMonti triathlon takes centre stage from Eastern Beach on Sunday morning.

Tribal, East London’s only dedicated swim, cycle, run and triathlon shop, are very proud to be hosting the event in association with KPMG, and will have races for all ages and abilities, provided that they can manage a 400m swim.

Taking place at the Orient Beach Complex, the athletes will test their swimming mettle in the sheltered area beside the harbour, before enjoying the North East Expressway’s closed road for the cycling leg.

The three-disciplined event will finally end with a run along the waterfront.

“East London is very quickly building a reputation for being the natural home of triathlon in South Africa,” said Cillian Ryan, marketing and events director at Tribal.

“Here at Tribal we are delighted to continue the growth of the sport by adding new and professionally managed events to the triathlon calendar,” said Ryan.

“This alongside the fact that we have such a fantastic sponsor in KPMG coming on board to help bolster the grassroots growth of triathlon in our area, we are truly excited at what this race will bring this year.”

The event takes place on the same day as the South African Triathlon Championships in Bloemfontein, which lends the local race very much open to fresh faces on the podium, due to a lot of Tribal’s Triathlon Series winners taking part in the Free State.

In addition, Tribal encourages athletes that are new to the sport to turn out for their first race, either as an individual or a team.

There are team relay options for the sprint and Olympic distances.

Spectators can cheer the local athletes along the waterfront on the Sunday morning.
