Kids to flock to festival of action in B’Bay

- By ROSS ROCHE

MINI cricket kids are set to get their first taste of a big festival in 2018 when they take part in the third annual KFC Baobab Khulisani Festival at the Beacon Bay Country Club on Tuesday morning.

Over 200 kids are expected to take part in the fun and action-filled day of mini cricket.

“KFC as a brand is invested in and looking after children. We have our ‘add hope’ component which is the second largest feeding scheme in the country after the government, so the brand itself is very invested in looking after, nurturing, up-skilling and feeding children,” said KFC Marketing and Communications Manager Shayna Elcott.

“Border Cricket also comes in and there are coaches and adults looking in and working with the kids, so it is very special.

“We also host this in partnership with Merrifield, and they have been great.”

On the day the kids are set to receive coaching, while the schools invited will play against each other in a round robin type of format.

The games will all be for fun. “We also kit them out in their gear which is great and they all look good,” said Elcott.

KFC hopes to continue growing this festival in the future.

“We have been growing this festival each year and we try and give opportunities to as many different schools from around our area as we can,” said Elcott.

“We just need to keep going strong, keep improving it every year and make it better and better.

“It is important for us to bring schools from different backgrounds and levels together and give these kids a platform to shine.”

The schools taking part this year are: Mdantsane 1 & 2, Buffalo Flats 1 & 2, Kidd’s Beach, Stirling, Advanced for Life, King’s College, Cambridge, Hudson, Gonubie Christian School, Gonubie Primary, George Randell, Kuswag, Merrifield and Crew.
