Classic clashes for Border schools’ day

- By ROSS ROCHE

THE annual Border Schools’ Rugby day is set to get the rugby season underway at Selborne College today, with teams from across the region taking part in the exciting day of schools’ action.

Matches are set to be fierce, but coaches will also be using the day to test out different combinations and give some of the fringe players a shot as they prepare their sides for various Easter Tournaments around the country in a few weeks’ time.

The main game of the day is set to be an exciting clash between hosts Selborne and Stirling High.

Selborne will head into the game as the usual favourites, but Stirling have retained a large contingent of players from last year who enjoyed a really good season.

A number of other interesting games will also be on the cards today, with Dale College and Hudson Park High set to battle out a thriller.

Hudson has enjoyed good success over the past few years and have cut the distance between themselves and the Colleges, so they will be keen to get a big win over Dale.

Dale will be eager to build some momentum ahead of the Kearsney Festival at the end of the month.

Queen’s College will be favourites when they take on Grens, while Keibased teams will be looking to upset East London opposition as Mthatha High battle Cambridge High School and Chief Boklein High are up against Port Rex.

Main Field fixtures: 9am: Phillip Mtywaku v Alphendale High, 10.10am: De Vos Malan v Lilyfontein High, 11.20am: Port Rex v Chief Boklein, 12.40pm: Cambridge v Mthatha, 1.50pm: Dale v Hudson, 3pm: Queens v Grens, 4.10pm: Selborne v Stirling.
