PAC calls for unified voice among freedom fighters

- By TEMBILE SGQOLANA thembiles@dispatch.co.za

A STRONG PAC would result in a “strong country ruled by political parties who fought for the freedom of this country”.

These were the words of Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA) president Kebby Maphatsoe to the PAC members who packed the Mzingisi Skweyiya Hall in Mlungisi location in Komani on Friday.

Hundreds of PAC members gathered at the hall for a ceremony to hand the remains of 17 Poqo members to their families.

“Our wish as MKMVA and ANC is to have a strong PAC because we share the same history. We can’t have the Democratic Alliance talking about the restoration of land while they took part in the dispossession of our people. It must be the PAC and the ANC who talk about land,” he said.

Maphatsoe said MKMVA, Azanian Peoples Liberation Army (Apla) and the Azanian National Liberation Army (Azanla) must also engage with the ANC and strengthen the relationship between the former freedom fighters.

“These military wings of ANC, PAC and Azapo must strengthen their relationship so that they don’t operate in silos. When you go to Zimbabwe you are taken to the heroes acre, but there is no heroes acre in South Africa, as if there was no struggle,” he said.

PAC president Luthando Mbinda said they were in a process of uniting the party.

“As the PAC we are together again and we have realised that what brought us here was the liberation of the African people, not positions or who must lead the PAC,” he said.

Mbinda said they were working 24/7 trying to fix the problems in the PAC.

“We can see positive results. Those who are against the unity of the PAC, I am not sure whether they will be able to fight against this coming tsunami called the united PAC. We are all taking the unity of the PAC seriously,” said Mbinda. —
