Cops make two major dagga busts
POLICE in two Eastern Cape towns have recovered R340 000 worth of dagga in two days.
On Sunday, a highway patrol team from the EmaXesibeni police cluster conducted a routine patrol on the N2 near Ntabankulu, where they stopped a white Toyota van during the early hours.
“They stopped the car at the intersection of the N2 and the road leading to Ntabankulu.
“They [searched it and] recovered 20 bags of dagga,” police spokeswoman Captain Edith Mjoko said. “A 35-year-old man was arrested and charged with dealing in dagga.”
The stash reportedly had a street value of about R100 000.
Mjoko said it was believed the dagga came from Macwerheni village in Ntabankulu and was being transported to Cape Town.
On Monday, Dordrecht police conducting a roadblock searching for unroadworthy cars discovered about 24 bags of dagga with an estimated street value of R240 000 in a Toyota Quantum minibus taxi.
Eastern Cape provincial police spokesman Captain Khaya Tonjeni said the taxi was on its way from Ntabankulu to Cape town.
“Inside, there were four passengers – two males and two females.
“The four passengers were arrested and charged with dealing in dagga,” he said.
The four are expected to appear in the Dordrecht Magistrate’s Court before the end of the week. —
