Manqele gets taste of scoring – now wants more

CHIPPA United striker Edward Manqele is gunning to increase his goal tally against Ajax Cape Town at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday.

Manqele scored against Kaizer Chiefs at the weekend, his first goal for the Chilli Boys since his return from Free State Stars.

Chippa pulled off an upset when they beat Soweto giants Amakhosi 3-0 in front of their home crowd at FNB Stadium.

The team are now in the top eight and have 33 points from 26 matches.

Despite their big victory there are still patches of dark clouds in the Chippa camp. They are not altogether safe from the danger zone, but a win against Ajax could secure their status.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns player says he has never lost against Ajax and believes Saturday will not be any different.

“Ever since I started playing I have never lost against Ajax and I am used to scoring against them,” said Manqele.

“When I played against them at Free State Stars I scored, and even when I was playing for Sundowns I used to score when we play against Ajax.

“So, I have never lost against Ajax. No matter what happens on Saturday we have to make sure that we win and I want to be on the scoresheet.”

The game against Chiefs was his second fixture at the Port Elizabethbased side since his return. He said scoring against his former team was a huge motivational boost.

“I was happy to go in and score. Going into the game I could feel that I was going to score.

“I even told one of my teammates that whenever I come in, I was going to score, because I could see the weakness in Chiefs’ defence.

“The last time I scored was when I was still at Free State Stars. So, contributing to the team against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday was great.”
