Peach looking sweet

- Dispatch Racing Editor

THE second leg of the WSB East Cape Poly Challenge is staged at Fairview tomorrow and Cape Rebel is out to double up on his first leg victory last month. But Peach Delight might well spoil the party thanks to a better draw.

The two horses meet in Race 7 on the card, which carries a R110,000 purse and Non-Black Type status.

Cape Rebel, from the Corné Spies yard, won the first leg of the Poly series over 1 200m last month – from a similarly poor draw – and might be even better over the 1 400m trip.

In his first-leg victory he impressed in coming from behind to catch Juan Two Three just metres from the post to win by half a length.

However, winning two races in a row from a poor barrier position is easier said than done.

The draw factor brings Yvette Bremner-trained Peach Delight into the picture. And, apart from jumping from gate No 2, she has in-form Lyle Hewitson aboard.

The six-year-old daughter of Greys Inn was running on in her last outing, over 1 300m, so the extra 100m tomorrow should be to her liking.

Peach Delight came very close in all three of her last runs and it will not come as a surprise if Hewitson takes the honours for the owners, Messrs FH McGrath and MC Wright.

One horse who cannot be underestimated is Alan Greeff’s Breakfast Club.

He has a merit rating of 83 and is up in class, but Breakfast Club has the ability to finish in the money. Currently rated at 14-1, he is the dark horse of the race.

There are several other contenders. Miracle Bureau is badly drawn at 16, but with some luck in running could also finish in the money. Fire In The Belly, Prince Of Orange, Lord Marshal, It Is Written and Story Of My Life show how open this event is – and that is not to forget the chances of Bollemakiesie and Sao Paulo.

From a very competitive field, Peach Delight is selected to finish ahead of Breakfast Club, Cape Rebel, Miracle Bureau, Prince Of Orange and Lord Marshal.

The meeting gets underway at 13:05 with a Maiden Juvenile Plate for two-yearolds in which Greeff-trained Madam Speaker looks hard to beat with Teaque Gould in the saddle.
